MEMBERSHIP - 7th & 8th Graders - CJSF 2nd Semester Applications available NOW!
California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) is a statewide organization for those students of high scholastic accomplishments, emphasizing academics, citizenship, and service learning.
Those students who are active members in CJSF for three semesters (7th grade: 2nd semester, 8th grade: 1st and 2nd semester) will receive a golden seal, designating “honor member” status on their eighth grade promotion certificate.

A membership donation of fifteen dollars ($15) is suggested when students apply to help cover club expenses, awards, and transportation for field trips.

Applications
7th and 8th grade CJSF applications are available beginning the week of January 9 via a Google Form and may also be accessed on the CJSF website, located on the Student Portal of the 7/8 website. The application deadline is Tuesday, January 31, 2017.
Students must reapply each semester for membership.

Eligibility (1st semester report card, distributed in January, will determine eligibility)
To apply a student needs to earn twice the number of points than courses in which they are enrolled, P.E. does not count. For example, if you are enrolled in 6 classes, you will need a total of 10 points. If you are enrolled in a zero period class (7 classes), and therefore have two elective classes, you will need a total of 12 points.

CJSF points are awarded as follows:
A = 3 points
B = 1 point
C = 0 points
D/F will exclude student from membership.
U in citizenship in any class will exclude a student from membership.

Meetings and Service Hour Requirements
CJSF students are required to attend monthly meetings, held the second Wednesday of each month during homeroom (HR), beginning in February. (Dates: 2/8, 3/8, 4/12, 5/10)

Students will also fulfill a minimum of 10 hours of community service per semester. (i.e. Rose Float decorating, scouts, church/temple, library, assisting teachers, preschool fundraisers, etc.). Additional ideas for hours are listed on the guidelines, which will be distributed at the first meeting and posted on the CJSF site.

CJSF Fun Day Field Trip (7th Grade)
7th grade students who attend monthly meetings and complete their 10 hours will be invited to participate in the “Fun Day”, taking place in May. The 7th grade CJSF membership will vote on the destination of the Fun Day. This field trip is optional and intended to be a reward for their hard work throughout the semester. The tentative date for this Fun Day is Monday, May 8, 2017.
