California Junior Scholarship Federation - Spring 2018 - Information and Applications for 7th & 8th Grade Students
California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) is a statewide organization that fosters high standards of scholarship, citizenship, and service. Each CJSF member is expected to be an active dues paying and participating member. A membership donation of fifteen dollars ($15) is suggested to cover club expenses, awards, and transportation for field trips.
Students must reapply each semester for membership. Those students accepted into CJSF for three semesters (7th grade: 2nd semester, 8th grade: 1st and 2nd semester), meeting all requirements for grades; service; and attendance at monthly meetings will receive a golden seal, designating “honor status”, on their eighth grade promotion certificate.
7th & 8th grade CJSF applications are available via Google Forms https://goo.gl/forms/NSuJczP93xydEul33
In addition to completing the online application, please submit the CJSF donation ($15) to Ms. Dalbeck. Checks are payable to “LCHS-CJSF”. When submitting the donation, please include first and last name, as well as the 5-digit ID number. Deadline: Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
7th and 8th grade students are eligible to apply for spring membership based on their 1st semester grades. Students may access their report card by visiting the Aeries Portal and selecting “Grades” from the drop-down menu.
To apply a student needs to earn twice the number of points than courses in which they are enrolled, P.E. does not count. For example, if you are enrolled in 6 classes, you will need a total of 10 points. If you are enrolled in a zero period class (a total of 7 classes), you will need a total of 12 points. CJSF points are awarded as follows: A = 3 points, B = 1 point, C = 0 points and D/F will exclude student from membership. Likewise, a U in citizenship in any class will exclude a student from membership.
CJSF students are required to attend monthly meetings, held the first Wednesday of each month during homeroom (HR). Students will report to their HR class and will be dismissed at 12:55 PM to attend the meeting. The first meeting is on Wednesday, February 7 in the AUDITORIUM. In the event that a meeting is canceled, students are responsible for checking the CJSF Google Classroom for important announcements.
Second semester meeting dates are: 2/7, 3/7, 4/4, and 5/2/18 (service hour log due at 5/2/18 meeting).
Service Hours and Opportunities
Students are encouraged to complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service per semester. Sign-ups for community service opportunities (i.e. LCF Public Library Book Sale, Serv-A-Thon, Campus Cleanup, etc.) will be posted at Ms. Dalbeck’s office as well as the CJSF Google Classroom. Additional ideas for completing service hours are listed on the guidelines, which will be distributed at the first meeting.
CJSF Fun Day Field Trip- 7th Grade
7th grade students who have attended the monthly meetings and have completed a minimum of 10 hours of community services, are eligible to attend the Fun Day. The 7th grade CJSF membership will vote on the destination of the Fun Day. This field trip is optional and intended to be a reward for their hard work throughout the semester. The tentative date for this Fun Day is Monday, May 7. 2018.
