My love of science started long ago in 7th grade. I was in junior high school science with
a teacher who was frighteningly strict but so interesting. After watching potassium explode in
water and dissecting a fetal pig, I soon had a favorite class.
It’s not too surprising that I really enjoy the sciences. I come from a scienceminded
family. My dad is a pharmacist, my brother a chemist, and my sister is a nurse. You can
imagine what conversations are like at our dinner table! Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked
as a respiratory therapist. My work placed me in many areas of the hospital including the
emergency room and intensive care units.
My educational path was a long drawn road. Before I graduated from Covina High
School, I had started classes at Mount San Antonio College in preparation for the respiratory
program. Once completed, I worked and continued taking classes, finally transferring to UC
Riverside. I completed my Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry and then two years later, my
Master’s of Science in Biochemistry.
Presently, I’m busy with work here at LCHS and at home with my family. I’m married to
Guido and we have two children, Claire and Thomas. My husband comes from Germany so
some of our vacations include trips to see his family in Leipzig. He has a wonderful family and
the scenery is beautiful.
In those unusual moments of free time, I love to bake and I love to share my baked
goods with those I treasure! My mother is an excellent quilter and I’ve come to enjoy that, too. I
have successfully completed several quilts. (They say to quilt is human. To finish... divine!) I
started taking tennis lessons in 4th grade and played through high school. I have taken that up
again and sneak it into my schedule whenever I can.
I feel so fortunate to work with such dedicated, hard-working students here at LCHS as
well as wonderful, supportive teachers. It’s a community of learners and I’m happy to be a part of it.
