CJSF

California Junior Scholarship Federation

California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) is a statewide organization that fosters high standards of scholarship, citizenship, and service.

Eligibility

7th and 8th grade students are eligible to apply for spring membership based on their semester grades. Students may access their report card by visiting the Aeries Portal and selecting “Grades” from the drop-down menu.

To apply a student needs to earn twice the number of points than courses in which they are enrolled. There are no points awarded for P.E.  For example, if you are enrolled in 6 classes, you will need a total of 10 points. If you are enrolled in a zero period class (a total of 7 classes), you will need a total of 12 points.  CJSF points are awarded as follows: A = 3 points, B = 1 point, C = 0 points and D/F will exclude student from membership. Likewise, a U in citizenship in any class will exclude a student from membership.

Students must reapply each semester for membership.  Those students accepted into CJSF for three semesters (7th grade: 2nd semester, 8th grade: 1st and 2nd semester) will receive a golden seal, designating “honor member” status, on their promotion certificate.

Applications

Students will be notified via email and homeroom announcements when the application window has opened.  The application will be linked to a Google Form within the email and will be submitted electronically. In addition to completing the application, a donation of $15 is requested to cover club expenses and awards.

Donations (Cash or Check - payable to LCHS-CJSF)

  • Membership - A donation of $15 is requested to cover club expenses and awards
  • Fun Day - A donation (price TBD based on destination) will be requested to cover the ticket cost and transportation for field trips
  • Please include first and last name, as well as the 5-digit ID number on all donations.

Meetings and Announcements

CJSF students are expected attend monthly meetings, held the first Wednesday of each month during homeroom (HR). Students will report to their HR class and will be dismissed at 12:55 PM to attend the meeting.  Information will also be distributed via homeroom announcements, Google Classroom, and email. Students are encouraged to check the CJSF Google Classroom and email regularly.

Service Hours and Opportunities

Students are encouraged to complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service per semester.  Service hours are no longer a requirement for membership, however, a student must complete the 10 hours to be eligible to attend the Fun Day.  Sign-ups for community service opportunities (i.e. LCF Public Library Book Sale, Serv-A-Thon, Campus Cleanup, etc.) will be posted at Ms. Dalbeck’s office as well as the CJSF Google Classroom. Additional ideas for completing service hours are listed on the guidelines, which will be distributed at the first meeting.

CJSF Fun Day Field Trip

Students who have attended the monthly meetings and have completed a minimum of 10 hours of community service, are eligible to attend the Fun Day. The CJSF membership will vote on the destination of the Fun Day.  This field trip is optional and intended to be a reward for working hard throughout the semester.
